So, deep breaths required when taking Youngest Girl to school for her first day last week. She was fine of course, looking tiny in her uniform, with a sweet but nervous smile on her face. And she loved it. Then, on Friday, she was knocked to the ground by the dogs, cutting her lip. Cue sharp intake of breath (me) and a big scream (her), before a spoonful of sugar (her) and later on a glass of wine (me) made it better. Now, on the eve of my new TV adventure*, I’m thinking slow breathing will see me right. That, and big pants.

Current white in the fridge: Montgras Sauvignon Blanc Reserva 2012, £9.35, Waitrose
My mother-in-law brought this on Sunday, when they came for lunch. It was our first properly Autumnal roast; pork as it happens, with the last of the veggies from her garden. The wine was on offer when she bought it but it’s back to full price now. Still worth mentioning though, as it really was perfect pre-Sunday lunch material. Made in the cooler climate Casablanca region, this is Sauvignon Blanc, Chilean style-ee. That is, grassy and gooseberry-like. Doesn’t need food, just peanuts and crisps. And lots of chat.

Current red on the side: Piggy Bank Tempranillo 2011, £7.99, Tesco
At the moment, almost every bottle of Spanish wine I drink makes me want to take it round to everyone I know and shout LET’S DRINK SPANISH WINE ALL THE TIME! in their faces. But I resist. And share it with just the Husband, or in this case, the in-laws too. Made in the not-that-fashionable Extremadura region, but from the very fashionable Tempranillo grape by a great winemaker. And brilliantly, 50p from every bottle sold goes to a virtual piggy bank, and when it reaches £5,000 we can vote on which charity the money goes too. Latest piggy bank info is here. Makes the cherry-mocha wine taste even better.

*I’ll stop talking about it at some point. Just not yet. Too excited.

Peace out, winos x

  1. No, don't stop talking about it, I'm enjoying your excitement…and I think I'd enjoy that Tempranillo also!

  2. Love love love the wines – am going out NOW to purchase more.

p.s. do NOT tell my PT or he will have me doing burpees, sprints and press-ups on a repetitive circuit for 27 mins. Bastard.

  3. No! Don't stop talking about it! It's so exciting! Can't wait to read more 🙂

  4. So you filmed today? how was it? when does it air?? (apologies if it aired today. we are WAY to intellectual (ahem) in this house to have proper telly. Just, you know, scooby doo dvds and lots of Scandi boxsets) And following from that, can I watch it online when it has aired? I bet you were FABULOUS.

  5. I'm sure you were fine. With the small amount of TV i've done (she says, trying not to sound like a complete arse) I just reminded myself that I was there because they wanted to hear what I had to say. As long as you're not in a live political debate, it's usually fun. (Apologies to anyone with a live TV debate coming up. I can't imagine how stressful that would be.)
