Oh, I’m feeling it. I’m even making some progress on the present list. Talking of which I thought I’d share a few of my favourite booze-related present ideas, just in case scrolling through Amazon is starting to mess with your head. More to come on Christmas feast-friendly wines next week but in the meantime, I give you:
Best Bottle for under £10
If you just want to buy that one brilliant bottle for a present, check out the wine reviews below this week. I’ve picked a red and a white and FYI my tasting note for the red was ‘cuddle in a glass’. Love, bottled.
Best Christmas Jumper
From Parent Apparel, my ‘Gin & On It’ sweatshirt is made from the softest cotton and so cosy it’s almost impossible to take off. For Christmas, it’s got to be Gingle Bells all the way (£42).
Best Boozy Chocolate
Properly delicious gin & tonic dark chocolate infused with juniper berry oil, from Notonthehighstreet.com (£5.95). Came out top in a recent boozy chocolate/sweet taste test I did for a piece in the paper. Beautifully packaged, too.
Best Grown Up Stocking Filler
This! Out next week, I *might* have mentioned it. Mostly dry but I’ve sneaked some wine stuff in at the back so that you can plan what to put in your glass when not dry. Pre-order here (£9.99).
Current white in the fridge: Godello
Price: £8.99 - Buy From Lidl
God. ‘Ello. This is really lovely: a citrus-scented, perky white from a little pocket of vineyards in Monterrei, in the Galicia region of northwest Spain. Usually it’s the Albarino grape that steals the lime-flavoured light here but this is made from the Godello grape and is just brilliant. One of the limited edition wine parcels snaffled by Lidl for Christmas so once stocks run out, that’s it. If you see it on the shelf, stuff some bottles in your trolley sharpish.
Current red in the rack: Grant Burge Shiraz
Price: £9.49 - Buy From Waitrose
Gorgeous, warm red made from the Shiraz grape (mostly) grown across different regions in South Australia including Langhorne Creek and the Barossa Valley. This can only be described as a cuddle in a glass; at 14%, it does require hearty food and/or a sofa but it’s super soft and luxurious. Tastes like just-squashed blackcurrants with a dusting of cinnamon spice. And from the 7th December until the 3rd January it’s down to just £6.99. An absolute bargain at this price. Looks really smart too. Great present material.
Hi Helen
Agree with you on the Lidl Godello, I love Godello and this is a pretty decent drop, bought a few bottles last week.
Site is looking good, always enjoy browsing through it
Hope you have a great Christmas, drink well !
Best wishes
Dave
