Under the Influence

I was in Shoreditch last night. Drank cold brew coffee in a café and watched grown people skateboard past on the street. Felt old, in a good way. Anyway, I was there to speak at an event along with Edd Kimber from GBBO fame and Poppy Loves, a London lifestyle blogger, about the role of influencers. Aside from wanting to ask Edd what Paul & Mary and Mel & Sue were like IRL (I resisted temptation) it was great fun. Most of all, it left me thinking how lucky I am to have you lot reading this. You love your wine (and the odd cocktail). You love trying new things. You tell me when you find something you really like and you ask me when you’re stuck for a recommendation. I promise I’m not under the influence. I just wanted to let you know that I really, really appreciate what you’ve made the KMWC. Thank you.

Oh, and there’s the best gin in a tin I’ve ever tasted in this week’s recommendations. Much nicer than cold brew.

Current spirit in the fridge: Adnams Copper House Dry Gin & Tonic Can

Price: £1.99 - Buy From Adnams

I tasted this for the first time just a few weeks ago when doing a round up of ‘smart’ drinks in a tin for a piece for the paper and this, my friends, is a game changer. The base gin is brilliant, the tonic delicious. It’s reassuringly juniper-y in style with lots of flavour and unlike so many gins in a tin, it doesn’t fall flat the minute it hits your mouth. Gorgeously packaged too, it’s coming to every festival/picnic with me this summer. Please note you have to buy a case if buying from the website. I’m sure you’ll manage.

Current white in the fridge: Zebra View Chenin Blanc

Price: £6.00 - Buy From Marks & Spencer

If you like your wine to taste peachy with lemon peel and a touch of honey – all for £6 – then here. You. Go. Currently on offer (it’s normally £8/bottle), it’s a Fairtrade wine made in South Africa’s so-hip-it-hurts Swartland region. The chenin blanc grape loves it here, evidently. And there’s no oak so all you get are proper sunshine-y fruit flavours with just right freshness. With or without food, this one’s not fussy but it does love a grilled chicken wrap.

I’ve tried the zebra view chenin blanc recently and I really liked it! I’m not much of a wine taster but I’ve been getting into lately <3
