Wakefield Wine Giveaway

If there’s one thing that’s got me through lockdown – apart from wine, obviously – it’s the idea of being able to see people again. But now that we’re actually allowed to see them – socially distanced, of course – I’m not sure I’m ready. I mean, proper conversations with completed sentences whilst wearing something other than slippers? It’s going to take some getting used to, not to mention an eyebrow tidy. Anyway, whether socially distanced or stay-at-home, I have good news on the drinks front. Free wine, to be precise, from one of Australia’s top family producers. Wakefield’s Jaraman wines are made with grapes from Wakefield’s home in the Clare Valley and then combined with parcels of grapes sourced from wine growing regions renowned for that particular varietal. Basically, it’s all about the fruit and I love that. There’s a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chardonnay up for grabs, a mixed case of 12 bottles (six of each) worth over £200! Read this week’s reviews for more details on the wines (both absolutely delicious). All you have to do to be in with a chance to win is leave a comment on the blog (or on my KMWC Facebook page or Instagram) and a winner will be picked next week. Even better, you can do all this in your slippers.

T&Cs: UK residents only. Must be over 18 years old to enter. Competition closes on 26th June 2020 at 11.59pm. The winner will be notified by email and the prize will be posted to the winner after that date.

I might be convinced of a Chardonnay over my go to Viognier especially if it was a prize! 👍🤞❤️

  2. Rachel Daw

I’d be pleased to be re-Introduced to Chardonnay after swearing off it in my 20s following over enthusiastic consumption! And free wine is much needed after my failed attempts at hone schooling

  3. Sounds delicious!

  4. Caroline Adams

I usually go for the red but this is making me try the white, sounds delicious.

  5. Juliet Amissah

Peach & nectarine notes sound delicious in this Chardonnay…. mouth watering already! Really enjoy your wine recommendations on Saturday kitchen!

  9. Susan Riggs

13 years ago, when I first met my Australian friend Nicole in a bar in London, I told her I was an ABC girl. She looked at me strangely, so I said “I drink anything but Chardonnay!” She laughed as in Oz the abbreviation stands for Australian Born Chinese, however my parents were from Wales, several 1000 miles from Australia!

Years later I am now a tired mum to an energetic 7 year old. Luckily now my palate has matured and I don’t mind a Chardonnay especially if it’s recommended by KMWC.

  10. Susan Stevens-Read

Wow! Amazing giveaway, love watching you on a Saturday morning, just so much fun! X 🥂

    • Nicola Setchell

Don’t think I’ve drunk Chardonnay for 20 years (mainly because I found the oak cased stuff so cloying); maybe it’s time to open my mind!

And red that you can drink on the sofa is my idea of heaven (lockdown or not)!

  14. Iain McFadyen

Is there anything better than the bright notes of an Oz Chardonnay with a vibrant summer salad in the sunshine? 🍇

  15. Emma Jones

    What’s not to like!

  16. Rachael Pardon

  18. Catriona Williams

Sounds like the perfect white, I love Chardonnay (usually) more than the acidic Sauvignon. Australian Cabernet Sauvignon makes me feel young again, it was the first decent red we could afford when we were poor students and went to Oddbins tastings on Saturday afternoons.

  19. Suzie McMorrow

Oh yes please, both sound delicious!

  20. Simon Heape

  44. Beth Miles

Both sound delicious and just the thing for socially distanced socialising.

  45. Joyce Scully

Wakefield wine? Wine from Wakefield? Fake news, surely! Then I read your Wakefield wine reviews and realised my daft error. Shall try a bottle of the Jaraman Canernet Sauvignon in an embarrassed attempt to regain my common sense. One of best excuses for buying some wine, I reckon.

  46. They sound lovely! Amazing prize, I would love to win!!!

  47. A chardonnay you say?
You know, I have NEVER fallen out of love with chardonnay – a true fan through and through.

  48. Angela Cox-Martin

I don’t deserve the wine any more than anyone else but I DID give birth to baby Rose in the bathroom when she decided to pop out and save me a trip to the hospital just before lockdown started. Oh and I bought your book for me and my sister in law after Joe Fattorini recommended it. Does that count? ❤️😀

  49. Catherine Ramsay

Slippers ready, wine glass ready…. rocking lockdown with 🍷

  50. Mint & velvet sounds perfect for when the weather’s turned & you can’t go out for an evening walk.

  68. Amanda McCormack

  87. This would be brilliant!

  88. Brad Start

I have mostly been drinking whites later, but I love the idea of trying “the kind of red that makes you want to sit on the sofa and stay there.” It really has been that type of year so far.

It’s good to have recommended wines, I never know what to choose, particularly when looking at more expensive bottles.

  94. Donna Callaby

I love a red in the winter and a white in the summer. A seasoned drinker?

  95. What a way to celebrate a relaxation of lock down.

  96. Whoops! Wine withdrawal moment! Thought this was wine from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, before reading it properly!

  97. Dewi Williams

Two for the price of none !

  99. David Woolley

I would like to win the prize and then enjoy the wine

  100. perfect for drinking in the garden when the sunshine returns

  101. In my twenties I shared a bottle of Chardonnay with my more mature sister-in-law at a restaurant – it was her choice and I thought it was terrible. I was still on alcopops at the time and needed a sweeter drink. Many years later I accidentally rediscovered Chardonnay and have been in love with it ever since! It has become my wine of choice every time and I can honestly say ‘the more, the merrier’ !

  102. Would love to try them!

  103. Nicky Cawsey

Not a white wine fan but would love to be persuaded. Now for that wine in a box!

  108. Pippa Kingston

Some distant socialising with a selection of these wines would be a welcome treat this summer! 🍷☀️

  109. Ali Johnson

I have to confess £17.99 per bottle is about a tenner more than I’ve ever paid for wine but I’m game for testing the theory that you get what you pay for – only without actually paying for it if you could be so kind as to donate your case to me in the interests of science.

  110. Tracy Gladman

Both of these sound lovely x

  111. Katie Jaques

This would be lovely to win, I would like to share these with my parents and my boyfriends parents who all have been working hard as keyworkers during the pandemic.

  112. Well some fine wine would come in handy during this lock down!

  113. Both of these wines have my mouth watering. Like some others have said, I fell out with Chardonnay for a long time, until someone pointed out that in the UK it is often served too cold. It shouldn’t be served straight from a fridge at 4-5ºC, but from a cellar or wine cooler at 8-10ºC, and it makes a BIG difference.

  114. Alison Woods

The perfect prize! I’m amazed so many people have been avoiding chardonnay. They will soon be converted back if they win. Thank you so much for the generous competition.

  115. Gemma Seton

I’m a retro Chardonnay drinker and usually opt for the same one every time so it would be refreshing to try a new one. Same goes for the red option, I love a good plump Cab Sav! Fingers and toes are crossed! Xx

  116. Tom Jefford

I do love a nice Chardonnay with a long finish

  117. Fingers crossed!! 🙂

  118. Firstly love the name, There are plenty of Knackered Mums about. Great Prize

  119. Shane Wilcock

I must confess, I’m a non-drinker (don’t ban me 😁😁) , my wife however, loves a drop of the good stuff and she deserves it. I’ve been working through all of this, but she’s been locked down, not just looking after our 2 girls, but educating them. We also celebrated 10yrs Married on Friday so the timing is perfect..

  120. sandra jenkins

    They both sound delicious.

  121. JAY WILLIAMS

I would love to win this to cheer me up after lockdown

  122. Rebecca John

Would love to give the Chardonnay a try.

  123. Definitely would like to try the Chardonnay!

  124. David Reeves

So much more than “just a drink”!

  125. After years of Shiraz only, I now enjoy the slightly bitter and easy drinking Chardonnay… perfect for the day on the beach.

  126. Andrew Petrie

Exiting . I love Australian wine but I’ve never had the pleasure of Wakefield’s .

  127. Karen Baines

Sounds just perfect, and all us mums deserve a glass, me especially twins aint easy… at any age lol

  128. Samantha Norris

Wine and slippers, sounds like a plan!!

  129. Lorna Kennedy

We were planning on drinking our way round Australia later in the year, but that’s not happening now so to win this would be great. My sofa’s not quite as good as an Ozzie vineyard, but am happy to try 🙂

  130. Love viognier – great apricot, peachy taste

  131. I am hoping the wine makes my homeschooling better!

  132. Steph Thomas

A good wine retailer can be a real find so that they act like a filter to leave only the best for me to choose from. Now, who can I recommend…

  133. Katherine Coldicott

It’s a lovely pize, perfect for sharing when we can visit family & friends again.

  134. Relaxing with red wine is a pleasure but white might be a refreshing change.

  135. sarah parker

    lovely 🙂

  136. Jo m welsh

I like the sound of the wine in the fridge sounds very refreshing

  137. Vivien Taylor

Thank You, it would be so nice to relax with some decent wine to share.

  138. Lorraine Williams

Husband likes red and I like white, so this case would be perfect for us.

  139. Michael Hogan

    Chardonnay sounds awesome

  140. Lorraine Tinsley

The Chardonnay sounds amazing. I’ve never really been a red wine drinker, but this sounds like it could make me go to the dark side!!

  141. Oh a gift of wine sounds absolutely amazing right now! and it’s only 8.30am!!

  142. Samantha Swain

It would be very unusual for me to have a wine in the fridge. They don’t normally last very long. With a fantastic case though they might stay in there long enough.

  143. I’d love to add these to my collection

  144. The cab sav will last about 10 minutes in lockdown.Might have to cook something good to go with the chardonnay.

  145. Janice Williams

I’m really starting to get into boxed wine. It used to be a very shameful thing but I find the taste equally as good and it lasts much longer.

  146. Catherine Whetton

I would absolutely love to try the white. It would go down a treat after looking after a 2 year old, home schooling a 7 year old and working from
    Home haha

  147. I am a recent convert to Chardonnay so would love to try this one.

  148. What a prize! Would love to win, perfect to have a taste & share catch up with friends after lockdown

  152. Rachael Simmons

Would love to win these for my sister, an extremely knackered mum of a 1 year old who is teething, it’s her 30th birthday in a couple of weeks and she’s stuck in the house with the child’s father who she has split up with already 🙁

  153. Mary Heald

Wine at any time is a good idea. There’s always a bottle in my fridge.

  154. Cherry Lloyd

Both those wines sound delicious, I don’t know why some people are so snobby about Chardonnay because I love it, especially if you bring the temperature up slightly to allow all the flavours to come through.
Australian wines are some of my favourite and usually pretty good all round choice. Majestic, know their stuff and are very good wine merchants. I would be absolutely delighted to drink these wines.

  155. hayley berry

    That Chardonnay sounds tasty 🙂

  156. An Aussie chardonay is my favourite!

  157. Jim Milligan

Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay – who could resist – thanks.

  164. This is a fantastic giveaway

  165. Helen Markham

    Just what is needed!

  166. I stopped drinking Chardonnay many years ago because it gave me a headache, I could be tempted to give it another shot especially if it is free!

  167. Winning this would certainly make the pourer feel very rich indeed!

  168. David Paterson

Think I will need at least half a bottle before there’s enough Dutch courage to socially interact again. Found it quite nice and peaceful, viewing the world remotely.

  169. Diana Hartshorn

Love Sauvignon Blanc especially in the garden on a nice sunny evening.

  170. Kim Chapman

Any excuse to sit on the sofa drinking wine 🙂

  171. Nerys Wiliams

Wine in the store, wine in my trolley, wine in the garage, wine in the fridge, wine in me, wine bottle in recycling. Also sooo environmentally friendly
    Heaven really!

  172. I can’t even imagine how I would have got through lockdown without wine! Haven’t tried any of the Wakefield ones so this would be a lovely treat.

These sound lovely, thanks. I always like to try new wines, especially Reds but I never say no to a White or a Rose either!

  184. carol turner

Sounds fabulous, make the lockdown that bit better!

  185. susan leake

Both sound worth a try but my preference would be for the Current White In The Fridge: Wakefield Jaraman Chardonnay as white is always my first choice

  186. Kathleen Marsden

My go to wine is Cabernet Sauvignon but I tend to stay clear of Chardonnay as it can be hit and miss on flavour so to be able to taste both of them as a prize would be fantastic. The Chardonnay has a nectarine flavour which I quite like the sound of. Here’s hoping.

  187. Nothing beats a Good Wine – and the best ‘Tester’ is me!

  188. Sounds super lush! 🙂

  189. Paul Wilson

  196. Helen Hithersay

Oh to be able to sit with my family and share a good bottle of wine. Won’t be long now I’m sure.

  197. Oh, yes please! I’m afraid that with white wine I am quite the heathen and go for a spritzer (which Chardonnay works in wonderfully!). For reds, I’ve been going continental for a while now but maybe it’s time to get back to the Australians that were my staple for many years.

  198. Emily Turner

That Chardonnay sounds lovely, I need to learn to branch out from my usual South African chenin blanc!

  199. Alexa Schoolar

    these look delicious

  220. Tara Smith

They both sound delicious and a superb way to relieve the monotony of lockdown!

  221. Christina Palmer

I don’t buy wine often as I never know which to purchase and usual end up with something tasting like vinegar. My safest bet has been to stick to Rose. I would love to have the opportunity to try both of these.

Having being used to only the £7iest bottles of wine that the fine purveyor, Sainsburys, has to offer, I’m not sure my body could handle the shock of actual nice wine. But, it has always been a dream of mine to fill my wine rack. Usually I have a bottle of wine in my house and then, shortly after, a bottle of wine in my body.
This would be aspirational for when people are allowed back inside my abode.
“Look, I have wine, in my wine rack.”
    and then we’d get zotzed

  231. Christine Caple

I love wine, they both sound delicious!

Cab Sav is such a reliable grape in terms of style . I’m also falling back in love with Chardonnay now producers have stopped (largely) fake oaking it to the point where it only just resembled wine . Genuine oaked wine can be beautiful but the fake Oak chippings method was all over the place 10/15 years ago .

  363. Carly Belsey

A few lovely wines there and I love the fact I can do this in my slippers haha. Great read. Thank you. “It’s the kind of red that makes you want to sit on the sofa and stay there.” – sounds like my kind of wine and my kind of evening at the moment.
