At last, it looks like sun is on the way. And this time it might just stay for more than about 20 minutes. When we were promised some sun a few weeks ago I duly threw on the St Tropez and went the colour of an old mahogany sideboard (my preferred shade). Sadly, the tan way outlasted the actual sunshine. But the forecast for the Bank Holiday is looking pretty good. I’m predicting patches of white, with spells of rosé and a fair amount of red overnight…
Current white in the fridge: Peter Yealands Reserve Sauvignon Blanc
Price: £8.69 - Buy From Waitrose
We’ve had this one before but it’s currently on offer (normally £11.59) and it’s too good to miss. Such a good style of Sauvignon Blanc, not too grassy but still with that unmistakeable Sauvignon zing with peach and passion fruit in there, too. And the 4th May is World Sauvignon Day, apparently. As if we needed an excuse. Gorgeous with prawns.
Current red in the rack: Vina Gala Rioja
Price: £6.99 - Buy From Co-op
Brilliant value Rioja from Co-op’s Irresistible range (terrible name, I know. But go with it). The wine is made for the Co-op by a great family-owned producer, Muriel. And it’s just what you want from a Rioja with a bit of age (the name Crianza on the front means the wine has been aged in oak, in this case for at least two years). Think bramble fruit aromas with a bit of spice, all mellow and more-ish. Brilliant value, this one. Try it with slow roast lamb.
