This might be an upside down, inside out kind of year but at least half term is providing something of a breather this week. Even the appalling weather seems to be telling us to stay home, watch films and not feel quite so guilty about screen time right now. Anyway, we might not be able to meet up with friends in real life as we might wish but if you fancy some company this Thursday night (virtually, I mean) I’m doing a live wine tasting over on Kat Farmer’s Instagram page with a selection of wines to get you through half term with your glass half full. We’ll be tasting the Tesco Finest Cremant de Limoux Rose, Croix de Beard Picpoul de Pinet, Tesco Finest Malbec Rosé and Tesco Finest GSM from Australia and with 25% off six at the moment they’re all great value. Join us if you can and bring your own, obviously. Snacks essential. In the meantime, see this week’s wine reviews if you need a top up.
Current white in the fridge: Nettie Viognier
Price: £8.99 - Buy From Majestic
Well, hello winter-friendly white with your gorgeous plump stone fruit flavours. I love the peachy Viognier grape but this Californian take on it is something else. Not to mention cheap as proverbial chips. Honestly, you can’t drink this and not feel just a little bit more sunshine-y afterwards. Especially good with at least half a packet of cheese straws.
Current red in the rack: Morrisons The Best Cahors Malbec
Price: £8.00 - Buy From Morrisons
Big but not scary, this is a fire-lit-slippers-on kind of red, warm and welcoming with loads of bramble fruit flavours and a touch of spice. Made from the marvellous Malbec grape, this is from its first home in France (Argentina is more of a second home, even if it does really love it there). Fantastic value, I’m going to have this one open on repeat this winter.
