So, as I write this, everywhere is blanketed in the white stuff. But like a foot sticking out from the edge of the duvet, where we live (in the New Forest) is cold but uncovered. And I’ve got serious snow envy because unless we get some, it means we’ve got to do World Book Day tomorrow. Cue last minute costume dramas. I’ll keep you posted.
Current white in the fridge: Berry Bros. & Rudd Old Blocks Chenin Blanc
Price: £14.25 - Buy From Berry Brothers
When the buyer from Berry’s visited this particular (massively off-the-beaten-track) winery in South Africa last year she tasted a sample from a tank of wine destined to disappear into another (bigger) blend. But happily, she thought it so good she snaffled the lot on the spot for this exclusive blend. Think waxy lemons and grapefruits with a dollop of peach and perfect freshness. A real treat.
Current red in the rack: Tilimuqui Fairtrade Organic Malbec
Price: £12.59 - Buy From Waitrose
New from the brilliant Argentinian co-operative winery La Riojana, this is an organic Malbec. And it’s just right: full of dark bramble fruits, lots of spice and a fair bit of grip. It’s Fairtrade too – basically, most of the village is connected with the winery and its wines in some way and Fairtrade projects help to improve local living conditions. Properly good wine.
