I love a fancy dress party. So I went all out on Saturday at an 80’s themed party (the decade, not the age). I’m talking zebra print dress, black leggings, gold boots, candy pink leg warmers, arms covered in plastic bangles, lots of pink and blue eyeshadow and half a can of backcomb spray in my hair topped off with a scrunchy. I felt about 12 years old. Up until the point when, midway through 99 Red Balloons, I jumped a little too enthusiastically and felt my knee go. Suddenly I was 45 again, in terrible clothes, holding a bag of frozen peas to my leg. Not quite the knees up I had in mind.
Current white in the fridge: Co-op Irresistible Gavi
Price: £8.49 - Buy From Co-op
Another little gem from the Co-op’s Irresistible range, this crisp white Italian is made from the Cortese grape and comes from the Piedmont region in northern Italy. All green apples and almonds, it’s one of those typically brilliant Italian whites that goes so well with lighter summer foods – salads, grilled chicken, fish. Or simply with The Archers.
Current red in the rack: Elephant in the Room Shiraz
Price: £10.99 - Buy From Majestic
The ‘elephant’ in question here is oak. Because in recent years oaky wines have fallen slightly out of fashion. But the producers behind this wine think that, actually, an unashamedly oaky red is something lots of us love. And we’re quite happy to buck the trend. Made from grapes grown in the Langhorne region in South Australia, this is big, bold, rich and spicy – and absolutely delicious. Don’t be tempted to drink this without food to hand, even if it’s just a plate of strong cheese.
How funny! I was at a fancy Mad Men themed party last week which was so much fun! Something about fancy dress… brings out the silly side in everyone. Hope your knee heals soon! x
Thanks! All fine now. Just a cruel reminder that I’m not 22 anymore x
Haha, come and see me !
Ha ha!
Love it! I am an almost 70 year young retired Wine Agent in the US (pensioner) who has a primary budget of enjoying wine. It is a hoot to share views with laughter. My maternal family are South East Kent (Snodland). I understand the knees and I understand that leggings are not necessarily one size fits all. My shoes of choice are trainers. Cheers….
Thank you! Lovely to know you are reading from afar! Hope to keep you laughing. And yes, am going to stick to trainers for a while.
