Just as I was settling in to my new Autumn evening routine (sofa, Killing Eve, glass of red) an email arrived from a friend. Would I like to go with her to the premiere of A Star In Born? Cut to last Thursday and there we were, on the red carpet, with Bradley Cooper just a few feet away. Then Lady Gaga appeared and swept past us in her incredible glittering galleon of a dress. I know! Anyway, the film is uh-mazing. And now I can’t stop listening to one of the songs from the film, Shallow, despite welling up every time I do. Definitely worth leaving the sofa for. Just as soon as you’ve finished Killing Eve, obviously.
Current white in the fridge: The Society’s Chablis
Price: £14.50 - Buy From The Wine Society
If anyone tells you they don’t like Chardonnay, give them a glass of this and see what happens. Actually, I can tell you what happens. They finish the glass, ask for a top up and then when you tell them it’s Chardonnay they don’t believe you. Because this one hasn’t been anywhere near an oak barrel and just lets the fruit – and place it’s been made – do the talking. Clean, crisp, and very, very drinkable. Only thing that’ll improve it is an omelette served alongside.
Current red in the rack: Number 9 Blend Australian GSM
Price: £6.99 - Buy From Aldi
These three grapes – Grenache, Shiraz & Mourvedre – make such a happy threesome, they’ve even got their own acronym. This particular GSM from South Australia is a joy with juicy, mellow bramble fruit flavours and a gentle kick of spice. Best imbibed on a sofa, blanket over knees, fire lit.
