Half term next week. How did that happen? HOW? Summer finished, like, five minutes ago. I’ve only just got my properly chunky jumpers out (not a euphemism). But despite having to pretend there are no kids in the house when on a work call, it feels like a breather of sorts. No early morning clean school uniform treasure hunts. No forgotten packed lunches/completed slips/pick up times (yes, I was the idiot who went to collect their kids AN HOUR EARLY yesterday, forgetting they had an after school club. I could have cried). Anyway, have fun. And make sure there’s wine in the fridge.
Current white in the fridge: Puklavec & Friends Sauvignon Blanc/Pinot Grigio
Price: £6.49 - Buy From Waitrose
Super slinky white from Slovenia, this brings together the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio grapes. And, boy do they get along! There’s a bit of gooseberry, a dash of lemon and a twist of pineapple. Really fresh but not so much it makes you suck your cheeks in, this is one easy going white. No food needed but salty crisps mandatory.
Current red in the rack: Bolney Estate Rosso Vermouth
Price: £19.00 - Buy From Bolney Estate
Essential for a negroni, and great with tonic. Just two reasons to make sure you’ve got a bottle of this brilliant bittersweet fortified drink full of herby, fruity flavours in your drinks stash. Unlike your bog-standard, this one’s made from foraged berries from the hedgerows surrounding English vineyard Bolney Estate. And a little goes a long way so it lasts for ages. Worth every penny.
