Roll Up, Roll Up

I planned to do a KMWC wine surgery film tonight but, after Vegas, my eyes are like piss holes in the snow (to coin one of my mother’s favourite sayings). So we’ll leave that for next week. Instead, I have a rather excellent giveaway. As you know (unless you’re new here, in which case, welcome *passes glass*) those kind people behind Camp Bestival asked me to do a wine tasting at this year’s event. And amazingly, they’ve converted a 1970s tourer into a wine parlour from which the wines will be served. I know! Anyway, they’ve only gone and given me a family ticket for the festival worth up to £842 to give away. Crowned Best Family Festival at the UK Festival Awards, headline acts include Basement Jaxx and James (oh, sit down). Other acts include Sinéad O’Connor and Laura Mvula, and Boy George is doing a DJ set! For the children, there’s Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain: Part II, Mr Tumble and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 50th Birthday Takeover among others. All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning a Camp Bestival Family Ticket* is leave a comment either here on the blog or on the KMWC facebook page (click here) including the words ‘Roll Up, Roll Up’. Then we’ll do names in a hat, as usual. In the meantime, wine.

Current sparkling in the fridge: Tesco Finest Prosecco, £8.99, Tesco
Earlier, Flossie Teacake asked, via twitter, for a Prosecco recommendation. So Flossie *puts on DJ voice* this one goes out to you. Made by a great producer called Bisol, it’s frothy, lemon-sheberty and above all, a really happy, uncomplicated drink. Made from the Glera grape in the Veneto region, in northern Italy. Prosecco doesn’t need to be expensive but it does need to be fresh. And this one’s fresh as a daisy. Ideal party material, just make sure it’s served really chilled otherwise it doesn’t refresh as it should.

Current red in the rack: Cono Sur 20 Barrels Pinot Noir 2011, £16.97, Asda
Given my post-Vegas state, tonight was always going to be lo-fi. And so it was, with a bowl of left-over chilli covered in grated cheese and not one but two instalments of Made In Chelsea to catch up on. And a glass of this red hot Chilean Pinot Noir, made from grapes grown in the cool Casablanca Valley. It’s then aged in oak (so you’d hope, with a name like 20 Barrels) so added to the redcurrant and raspberry fruit is a toasty, spicy edge. Not cheap, but really good value for such a smart Pinot.

Peace out, winos x

*Family ticket is 2 x adult tickets plus up to 4 children in general camping. For more information go to www.campbestival.net

T&Cs:
1.  Competition closes on 17th June 2014 at 11.59pm.
2. The prize draw is open to any UK resident over the age of 18.
3. My mother will pick out a name at random and her decision is final (it’s her hat).
