Endless cups of tea on the sofa, nailing the last series of Catastrophe I’ve been meaning to watch for ages…turns out recovering from knee surgery can be FUN. And as for the drugs…well. They have a lot to answer for. Not least the pair of sequinned leopard print espadrilles ordered at the weekend. I mean they were in the sale but still, online shopping after a couple of glasses of rosé is one thing. Shopping on codeine is next level. Actually, I’ve just remembered that ruched polka dot swimsuit from last year. With ruffles. And a plunge front. Suddenly the espadrilles sound positively tame.

You know how Sauvignon Blanc has that unmistakable herby aroma? It’ll have something of that wherever you make wine with it. But Chardonnay? It can be citrusy and crisp as a starched tablecloth or ripe as a juicy peach. It just depends on where and how it’s made. And Chardonnay from its spiritual homeland, Burgundy, is one of my favourite ways to drink it. This one’s great value at well under a tenner, light and fresh with green apple aromas and a whack of white peach in the mouth. Lovely stuff.

Syrah, Shiraz…same grape, just different names. This one’s from France, from down south with plenty of sun to help bring out warm bramble fruits in the wine. There’s a bit of spice too. Not the most complicated wine in the world. But it’s delicious, not to mention great value for money. Double thumbs.
Helen. Love your pieces but watch out for when you start the physio!
They won’t allow couch work. Possibly need something “strong” to keep you going. Best of luck with your recovery. Regards Peter
